REVIEW
OF ADOPTION APPLICATION
All
persons interested in adopting horses from CCFER must complete our adoption application.
This application is designed to discover: 1) The potential adopter's general equine
knowledge along with their experience with riding horses, 2) The intended usage
of the adoptive horse, and 3) The horse management knowledge of the adoptive family.
We shall review all applicants and match the application with the most appropriate
horse. Applicants may also apply for a specific horse. While CCFER will endeavor
to fulfill this request, all parties must understand that we cannot always guarantee
that the applicant will be paired with the horse they desire. Upon the rare occasion
that an adoption applicant requests a particular horse that in no way suits the
applicant's equine knowledge or the intended use of the horse, CCFER will attempt
to make a more correct match, always with the full knowledge and participation
of the applicant. Once a candidate and horse have been paired, the horse is placed
on 'pending' status. The 'pending' status shall remain in effect until the process
is completed or terminated.

ADOPTION FORM <<: You can copy and paste into an email or you may print
it, fill it in and then send it to us.
PERSONAL
INTERVIEW
During
the personal interview, all potential adopters must visit the CCFER facility and
spend time getting acquainted with the selected horse. Applicants will also meet
with one or more of the directors. At this meeting, the application will be discussed
in detail. The director(s) will further evaluate the interaction(s) between the
candidate and the horse. Any special needs the horse may have will be detailed
and explained to the full understanding and agreement of the applicant at this
time.
INSPECTION
OF POTENTIAL ADOPTION FACILITIES
Following
the personal interview one of the directors will schedule an appointment to inspect
the applicant's facilities. This inspection is designed to ensure the property
conforms with state or local Animal Welfare statutes. Furthermore, the CCFER representative
will make sure that the prospective facilities are also sufficient to meet any
special needs of the desired horse. In instances where facility improvements are
needed, the CCFER director and the applicant shall agree upon a reasonable period
of time to accomplish improvements. If the agreed upon time expires and the needed
improvements have not been made, the application shall be marked as denied and
the horse will be removed from pending status and made available for the next
candidate. If the initial applicant makes the required improvements after the
pending time period and the desired horse is still available, the application
will be reconsidered upon request of the applicant.
PRESENTING
EDUCATIONAL SERIES AT OUR FACILITY
The
educational series is designed to make sure the applicant fully understands the
basics of horse care, ongoing routine upkeep, and any specialized needs that the
selected horse requires. The length of any educational presentation will depend
upon the candidate's existing knowledge of horse care and management as well as
their experience in working with horses.
COMPLETION
OF THE ADOPTION CONTRACT
Before
the desired horse is picked up or delivered, the applicant shall go over the terms
and conditions of the adoption contract with CCFER representative(s). After all
fees have been paid in full, the contract will then be signed and executed by
all parties.
