Bambino FAQs Commonly
asked questions about the Bambino Cat.
Q.
Can short cats run and jump as normal cats do? A.
Oh yes! Do not be fooled by their short stature. Short cats have NO problem getting
anywhere and everywhere that long legged cats do. They run (some faster), jump
(just as high) and they love to climb. Many people have the misconception that
short cats won't be able to get on countertops. They can and do! These Baby Cats
are very agile and athletic so don't let them fool you. Q.
Are Bambinos playful? A.
Bambinos have a very playful personality. They are mischievous, loving and outgoing
all rolled into one. Don't expect a sit-on-the-couch-and-be-pretty cat. They always
want to be the center of attention, needs lots of affection and will be a pal
not just a pet. They come by their nickname "Baby Cats" honestly as
they really do act like a kitten all their lives! Q.
Will my husband/boyfriend like the Bambino? A.
It is commonly known that most guys are dog people. Bambinos seem to be changing
this theory. Bambinos are very muscular and athletic looking. This, coupled with
their hairlessness and short legs, gives them a macho appearance. Their personalities
are unlike the typical cat. They want attention, are loyal, can be trained to
do tricks and are very interactive with people. These are the same traits found
in dogs. So guys, yes, there is finally a cat for you - the Bambino. Q.
What kind of care do Bambinos require? A.
Bambinos are like most hairless cats in that they do require a different type
of maintenance than a furred cat. They do need baths regularly, ears cleaned and
nails clipped. They are indoor cats but they do not require extra heat. If you
are cold they are too but if they do get cold, they will find a warm place to
snuggle into. Because they are hairless, they have a higher metabolism to keep
them warm so they will eat more then a furry cat. We recommend feeding a premium
food. They are very intelligent cats and can be trained to stay off counters and
to not scratch furniture. Q.
Aren't Sphynx cats the only hairless cats? A.
No. Many people take it for granted that if a cat is hairless, it must be a Sphynx.
This is not true. There are a few different types of hairless cats. Besides Sphynx
there are Peterbalds, Donskoy or Don Sphynx, Kohanas and of course, the Bambinos. Q.
Are Bambinos hypoallergenic since they are hairless? A.
No cat is hypoallergenic although many breeders advertise them that way to sell
them. Allergies are from a cat's saliva and dander. Hairless cats seem to be hypoallergenic
because they do not have long fur to hold the dander and they do not wash themselves
as often. Hairless cats are also bathed regularly and this cuts the dander down
to a minimum also. The best way to tell if you are allergic to a Bambino or any
hairless cat is to visit one in person. Q.
Do Bambinos have spinal trouble like Dachshund since they are both short breeds? A.
No, they do not have the Dachshund's spinal trouble. The gene that causes short
legs in cats is a naturally occurring genetic mutation, not human made. It shortens
the long bones of the legs but does not affect the spine. Cats spines are made
differently than dogs and because of this, they do not have the spinal problems
associated with short dogs. Q.
Are Bambinos recognized as a breed and can they be registered? A.
Bambinos are recognized as a breed by the Rare and Exotic Feline Regisry (REFR)
and are recognized as an experimental new breed by The International Cat Association
(TICA) where they are registered as Experimental Bambinos. Q.
Why would I buy a Bambino instead of an established hairless breed? A.
Because they are simply the best! Seriously, they are! Bambinos are very unique
in both appearance and personality. They do not look like your average cat and
they do not act like it either. If you are looking for a unique cat that will
be a loyal, loving friend, that wants to snuggle with you all the time and keep
you entertained for years to come with their silly antics, then the Bambino is
the cat for you. ©
